WoW Cataclysm Guide

Cataclysm is arguably the most ambitious Expansion Pack EVER made for an MMO. So what could go wrong? Mostly, the Developers fear they can’t get it all done by the deadline. So they MIGHT have to leave something out and add it in later. Candidates for the (Hopefully temporary) axe include:

  • Worgen Phasing: This is the most ambitious system in the game, so other than the Worgen initial Quest, they may leave Phasing out of the Expansion Pack, and phase it in (Late Warning: Horrible Pun!) later. All this does is provide individualized views of the gameworld, and allows players to see the changes they’ve wrought, or at even caused indirectly.
  • Abyssal Maw and Underwater Mounts: Underwater physics are tricky, so they might leave THAT out of the Expansion Pack at first, and add it in later.
  • New Battlegrounds: This Expansion Pack is supposed to focus on the 1-80 game, not necessarily the endgame, so they could add in Battlegrounds anytime. When it comes to fights and Cataclysm PvP, not EVERYONE likes PVP, and the game is balanced, supposedly, around PVE.
  • Flight: Flight IS mostly being added to compete with AION, although it has jetpacks instead of Angel Wings, but if WOW has gone this long with only run-and-jump, it can stay grounded a little while longer, right?
  • Guild Leveling/Talents: The best Guilds are a finely-tuned machine already, so they shouldn’t yet NEED extra Perks and tweaks, and this can always be added later—Plus, those extra Talents could throw off the balance of Guilds already tuned for the current system, rather than just enhance play!
  • Cataclysm Archaeology: Adding slots to the characters themselves is tricky, but even MORE so when you have to balance it, and make it rewarding, BUT not necessarily game-breaking. Those two are almost diametrically opposite objectives, especially since players don’t want to be given a shiny new toy, only to have it nerfed in the next patch!

    Don’t worry, the new Races are all but a MUST, and the new, less-tedious methods of Questing in the WoW Cataclysm expansion will be added in as well. WOW Developers have learned and “evolved”, for lack of a better word, much since the start of WOW 5 years ago, and have realized that “Kill Ten Rats” Quests are no longer clever; in fact, they ADD to the feeling of tedium and being just a glorified exterminator, rather than a Hero. Uldum is “their finest piece”, by their own words, so they WILL add that to the Expansion Pack, since they’ve already spent nine months(!) on it ALONE. Here’s hoping they can get everything in, but if not, they can make a wise decision of what part to leave out and add in later…Or judiciously leave something incomplete that the players won’t notice, and finish it along the way!
